San Francisco 6038m

A peak near the Laguna Verde on the border of  Chile and Argentina, just east of Ojos del Salado. Normal approach to climb this peak would be from the city of Copiapo in Chile, or Fiambala in Argentina. SRTM data indicate that the summit is over 6030m high, so my GPS reading of 6038m has been used here. This is probably the easiest 6000m peak in the Andes to climb, due to the fact it is so near the 4800m high Paso San Francisco.

San Francisco form the pass to the north... the path up the mountain can just be made out.

We can organise guided ascents of this peak. For details of how to climb San Francisco, Ojos del Salado  and neighbouring peaks in the southern Puna de Atacama and Agua Negra area please see our guidebook which are available in English, Spanish, Polish and French editions, direct from us or from all good bookshops and mountaineering shops.
