Ausangate 6372m

The highest peak in the Cordillera Vilcanota, an interesting ascent normally climbed from the east although the route has been getting harder recently.

Ausangate from the north.

The headwall on Ausangate from the south, this is the key section when climbing the mountain. Phot as it was in May 2012, it has been gettign slowly harder over the years, but still seems fairly safe route objectively.

We can organise guided ascents of this peak and treks around it. For details of how to climb Ausangate and other high peaks in the Cordillera Vilcanota and neighbouring peaks please see our guidebooks, which are available in English, Spanish, Polish and French editions, direct from us or from all good bookshops and mountaineering shops.
