Pico Bolivar 5720m

Bolivar is the highest peak in Colombia, After many years of uncertainty over whether the neighbouring Pico Colon was higher a survey carried out by Eric Gilbertson in 2024 confirmed a height of 5720m for Bolivar and 5713 for Colon. Colon clearly has a much more glaciated summit, so in the past was quite likely the higher of the two.

Bolivar lies in the north of the country and is the highest peak in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Unfortunately safe and unrestricted access to these mountains is a wee bit tricky to get at the moment, although an ANDES trip did get in and make an ascent of Pico Colon in December 2015.
